Kevin Coltri has been performing music professionally since he was 16 years old. Over the course of his eleven year career he has performed professional gigs as a leader or sideman at venues such as Sweet Rhythm, New York; World Café Live, Philadelphia; The Cape May Jazz Festival, NJ; Chris' Jazz Café, Philadelphia; Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia; Atlantic City, NJ and PA Casinos, and many more. Kevin performed professionally as a leader or sideman with notable musicians including: Michael Pinto, Chris Tordini, Micah Jones, Megumi Yonezawa, Joong Hwa Jung, Garrett Brown, and many others.
A native of Medford, NJ Kevin graduated Shawnee High School in 2002. While attending Shawnee, Kevin studied saxophone with pedagogy guru Bill Garton and was a regular member, on alto and tenor sax, of the NJMEA All South Jersey Wind Ensemble, NJIAJE All South Jersey Jazz Band, NJIAJE All State Jazz Band, and The Wind Symphony of Southern NJ. Kevin was a recipient of numerous best overall soloist awards at local Jazz Festivals as well as a recipient of 1 of 5 outstanding musicianship awards out of thousands of musicians at the 2001 Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival.
Kevin began his collegiate studies in 2002 at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD and majored in Jazz Saxophone Performance. He studied saxophone and flute under Jazz legend Gary Thomas and completed four semesters before he transferred to The New School University in New York City. At The New School, Kevin studied saxophone with many legends including; Greg Osby, George Garzone, Billy Harper, and Dave Glasser. He also studied clarinet with doubling virtuoso Tim Price. At the New School, Kevin performed in ensembles coached by Reggie Workman, Jane Ira Bloom, Andy Milne, Joanne Brackeen, and Bobby Sanabria. Kevin graduated The New School in 2007 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jazz Saxophone Performance.
In 2008 Kevin enrolled in the Master of Music program at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and studied under Philadelphia saxophone heavyweights Ben Schachter and Ron Kerber. He received the highest marks and much praise from the faculty for his Master's Recital, which can be heard in it's entirety on Kevin's website. For Kevin's Master's Thesis he wrote an elementary saxophone method book designed to be used by elementary band directors who aren't saxophonists. In his research Kevin intensely studied the teaching methods of some of the most successful saxophone pedagogical figures and incorporated many of their methods into his own teaching. He graduated The University of the Arts in 2010 with a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies.
Kevin has been teaching private lessons on Saxophone for over ten years and Flute and Clarinet for over five years. During that span several of Kevin's students have auditioned successfully into regional honors bands and some went on to major in music in college. Currently besides teaching, Kevin performs regularly with the FM Band www.FMBandMusic.com, one of the top cover bands in the Philadelphia Region.
