The New Jersey School of Music is extremely proud to offer private music therapy sessions with a Board Certified Music Therapist. Music Therapy sessions are available for individuals of any age with various learning and developmental disabilities. The New Jersey School of Music is an approved service provider for the DDD through Easter Seals of NJ and Burlington County CMO/Partners for Kids and Families. Insurance reimbursement assistance is available upon request.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional who develops individualized treatment and supportive interventions with people of all ages and ability levels to address their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, sensory and spiritual needs. CBMT is the only organization to certify music therapists to practice music therapy nationally. It has been fully accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) since 1986. Over 4,900 music therapists currently maintain the MT-BC credential, and participate in a program of recertification designed to measure or enhance competence in the profession of music therapy.

Katerina Christodoulou - Music Therapist - New Jersey School of Music LLC

Katerina Christodoulou, MT-BC-- Music Therapist at New Jersey School of Music, received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Therapy from Immaculata University. Katerina's main instrument at Immaculata was voice; she is also proficient in guitar. She is Board-Certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).

Katerina completed her internship working with children and adults with developmental disabilities and some level of vision impairment at Royer Greaves School for the Blind, in Paoli, Pennsylvania. Upon conclusion, she became a self-employed music therapist, offering fee-for-service sessions with Jammin' Jenn Music Therapy for Children and Build-a-Bridge International in Philadelphia, PA. Katerina works with children with developmental disabilities, language delay, and individuals on the spectrum. She facilitated music therapy groups and individual sessions in Marlton, Moorestown, and Delran, NJ. In addition to providing music therapy sessions with New Jersey School of Music, Katerina currently teaches Music Together family classes for A & W Music Together Center in Swedesboro, NJ. She is in the process of pursuing her Masters Degree in Social Work at Temple University.

Individual sessions are available with Katerina for children and adolescents. Her approach is to give the client an enjoyable experience in music, and then build on their strengths, interests, and areas to work on in addressing their individualized needs.

Examples of common music therapy interventions are listed below, but are always modified to meet the needs of the client:
-Therapeutic music games addressing impulse control, socialization and cognitive stimulation
-Songwriting of lyrics
-Lyric analysis
-Singing or instrument playing as a means of aesthetic experience

Sarah Levy - Music Therapist - New Jersey School of Music LLC

Sarah Levy, Board Certified Music Therapy, MT-BC received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Music Therapy from State University of New York at New Paltz. She had a concentration in classical piano and also sings and plays the guitar. Sarah completed her internship at the Center for Spectrum Services in Kingston New York where she provided group and individual sessions for students with autism. She currently works at a school for children with developmental disabilities. Sarah has her elementary and special education teaching certifications in the State of New Jersey.

Music Therapy Sessions with Sarah at the NJ School of Music in Cherry Hill are available most days after 4:30. Home visits are available upon request.
